ATTENTION
The heavy current ice environment at the Northern Sea Way didn't let to begin the trip around the world this year. 25/8/96 "URANIA-2" turned back at 300 miles to the North from base port Eqerzund-Norvey after getting weather forecasting along Northern Sea Way. 4/8/96 the yacht reached the Central Yacht-club of Saint-Petersburg. The trip will be continued to prepare the beginning of new world-around trip to the South in the summer of 1997.
The expedition sailing yacht "Urania-II" with 10 members of the crew on board will leave the port of St.Petersburg at the end of July 1996. The aim of the expedition is to go around the Globe in the longitude direction across the Atlantic, Southeren, Pacific, North Atlantic oceans in 14 months. The route of the Round-the-Earth travel will go through Antarctica, the continent which the expedition is planning to cross on a sailing snow mobil through the Southern Pole. This is the first expedition in the longitude direction, where the main moving power will be energy of the wind and physical abilities of people. This is the first autonomus expedition in the history of crossing Antarctica trough the southern Pole (from sea to sea) without using mechanic means and equipment. The main feature of Transglobal expedition is that her trips - by sea or by land will be made under the sail.

This is a new step in the evolution of extreme trips.

During Round-the-World expedition 1n 1996, the training trip route Salekhard-Dikson island and the sea trip to Northen Sea in 1995, the group of skiers men and the yacht will communicate with the wirld by means of amateur short wave radio equipment. Communication with them is great interest for radioamateurs of the whole world. Russian and foreign radioamateurs will have a unique opportunity to receive a card-certificate, a pennant and special diploma for communication with the expedition. Following the example of the previous groups experiences it is planned to conduct some thousands of contacts with over 100 countries of the world. Through the radioamateurs channels the headquaters of the expedition will get information about movements of of the travellers.
